The Darul Arqam is a traditional Islaamic school (Mahdharah)\u00a0with a modern twist.\u00a0It is a school dedicated to the memorization of the Qur\u2019an, complemented with a variety of Islaamic studies that aid in its understanding i.e. Hadeeth, Arabic, History, etc. The school was founded to meet some of \u00a0the\u00a0needs of\u00a0 Muslims from the West, either living here in Mauritania or coming here to study from abroad.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #578726;\">For the brothers and sisters living here in Mauritania, who have families, we\u00a0usually\u00a0experience hardship when it comes to finding suitable educational institutions for our children. Either we:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Put our children\u00a0in the traditonal schools (Mahdharahs) where the children begin their studies with the memorization of the\u00a0Qur&#8217;aan. This is great al hamdu lillaah. However, in the mean time they&#8217;re only picking up the local dialect of the people\u00a0and not classical Arabic. Also they fall behind in their academic\u00a0 studies.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the children at home. It&#8217;s great spending quality time with your children. However, most of us aren&#8217;t teachers. We don&#8217;t have the know-hows, experience, time, nor the equipment to perfrom a half decent\u00a0job.<\/li>\n<li>Resort to sending our children to the secular educational institutions here, either public or private. This option may be\u00a0fatal. Very little\u00a0importance is given to the religion; and\u00a0academically the education system here is pitiful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #578726;\">Some difficulties faced by\u00a0those who come\u00a0here, just for studies. Single or married:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>One of the problems that I&#8217;ve noticed for both single and married students\u00a0is that\u00a0they often come\u00a0without any idea what studying in Mauritania really is. Therefore, they may\u00a0waste their precious time and money,\u00a0which can be\u00a0frustrating.<\/li>\n<li>There aren&#8217;t\u00a0any specially designed\u00a0beginner classes here for foreign students, especially adults.\u00a0Therefore, students at a beginner level often experience some difficulty getting over this hurdle.<\/li>\n<li>Brothers with wives have a hard times finding classes for their spouses. It isn&#8217;t from the customs of the people here to teach someone else&#8217;s wife. The women were either taught by their relatives while growing up or by their husbands in the security of their own homes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is where The Darul Arqam steps in.\u00a0We currently have classes starting from\u00a0a Pre-K level. And for the children who are able to read, they&#8217;re memorizing Qur&#8217;aan and a text on the rules of Tajweed. After Ramadaan we&#8217;ll start our\u00a0 primary school level classes, insha Allaah. Allowing students to keep up with their academic studies while being\u00a0in an environment that encourages proper Islaamic etiquette and morals. We are hoping that those who understand\u00a0that education starts at a young age, will take the oppurtunity to\u00a0 participate in our program.<\/p>\n<p>As for older students, we haven&#8217;t forgetten you. We are in the process of offering beginner level classes for older students.\u00a0These classes are intended to\u00a0be stepping stones, facilitating a smooth\u00a0transition into\u00a0the Mauritanian style of studying.<\/p>\n<p>Our website is meant to be a tool of assistance.
