My philosophy is that education should lead to beneficial words and actions.\u00a0 Education should give you the tools needed for the journey of this life and the next.\u00a0 We\u2019re all travelers and when you travel you need certain tools, both physical and spiritual, to arrive safely to your destination.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nHow would you describe your teaching methodology?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nOne of the strengths of education in Mauritania is a strong emphasis on the memorization of texts and fundamental principles.\u00a0 However, many students don\u2019t know what to do with this stored information and therefore don\u2019t know how to derive benefit or benefit others by means of it.\u00a0 Our methodology will equally emphasize the application of knowledge by working with the students to solve problems, unlock concepts, and work through the material with the children.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nHow does the area where Darul Arqam is situated help to achieve the school\u2019s objectives?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nDarul Arqam is situated in a community that values sacred knowledge.\u00a0 Many families who previously fled Nouakchott to avoid tribulation have returned and settled in this very community.\u00a0 There are many other mahdharahs<\/em> in the area and there\u2019s great respect for the pursuit of knowledge with minimal distractions.\u00a0 Also, the community is not densely populated and everyone knows each other.\u00a0 This makes reminding and being reminded much easier.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nWhat are some of the educational challenges that relocated families face in Nouakchott?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nEducation is a major challenge for relocated families.\u00a0 The traditional Islamic schools don\u2019t teach other academic subjects taught in the secular academic school system.\u00a0 The secular academic schools don\u2019t teach religious studies found in the traditional Islamic school system.\u00a0 Most relocated families desire both for their children and may not have the resources or skills to teach their children on their own at home.\u00a0 Hopefully, our school will help to address this challenge of youth education.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nWhat are some factors that families moving to Nouakchott should consider?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nNouakchott is not a very developed city.\u00a0 There are not many comforts here unless you\u2019re willing to pay higher prices for them.\u00a0 You have to prepare yourself to live with people who have different values.\u00a0 Also, it\u2019s hard to find work because most people are self-employed with small shops and business ventures.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nCan you tell us your most memorable teaching experience at Darul Arqam?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nWatching students really grasp what they\u2019re learning and why.\u00a0 For example, I watched one of my students go from learning letters to vowel sounds to reading words.\u00a0 When she realized that she was actually reading words, her face lit up, as if to say \u201cthis is why\u201d and that was beautiful for me.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nWhat is your vision for Darul Arqam?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nI'd like Darul Arqam to at the service of the Ghuraba.<\/em> To be a school that gives our children the tools and skills needed to embark on this life journey, enabling them to function in society and contribute meaningfully to it.
